Minneapolis Craft Barbecue Sauce Receives Organic Stamp of Approval from USDA
Award-winning locally crafted Triple Crown BBQ Sauce joins the local and organic trend.

(March 1, 2014) MINNEAPOLIS—Three-time Minnesota State Fair award-winning Triple Crown BBQ sauce has just earned USDA Organic certification. Triple Crown BBQ is an original sauce locally crafted in small batches in Northeast Minneapolis. Andrew Wright, Acme Organic’s owner, acquired the recipe in 2012. Building on his background in organic and natural foods, his entrepreneurial goal was to develop a food line that was local, unique and delicious. Triple Crown BBQ is the first product launched by Acme Organics.

Wright’s experience includes product and brand management at Organic Valley and St. Paul-based Co-op Partners. “When I first tasted Triple Crown’s BBQ sauce I was encouraged that it had something new to offer,” said Wright. “I wanted to apply my organic knowledge to maximize its consumer appeal.” Wright implemented ingredient upgrades to make the product organic, gluten free and vegan, while also reducing salt and sugars.

“A thoughtful review of ingredients and their sources can really improve a product without adding costs.
